...is now dead. From now on do your talking at the spot, on the ramps, on the phone, etc.
In other news, I'll be flying to NYC tomorrow to join the Fox Pedal to the Metal Tour. Should be an awesome time... Check out the info at the link below and be sure keep checking the Ride site for the daily updates from the trip. http://www.bmxonline.com/bmx/news/article/0,15737,1616718,00.html
For those of you in the BR area, Iowa St. local Jon Rogers has an art show coming up in about a week or so. It's at Red Star Bar in downtown Baton Rouge so get there early and drink a lot so you get the courage to talk to cute scenester girls.
Just found out that Issue #65 from Props will be available soon. The Savage South Tour '06 is featured in the Bonus section of the video so make sure you check that one out. The trip was a real blast and everyone who went on it had a great time. Check out www.savagesouth.com for more updates from Louis and the rest of the Savage crew.
Hey guys, I don't know why I haven't gotten to this sooner but the annual Voodoo Flatland Jam is going down in a little over a month right down here in New Orleans. If you haven't been to this contest before you are really missing out. The riding is ridiculous and the atmosphere is great. If you want to find out all the details check out their myspace site: www.myspace.com/flatlandvoodoojam
I must take a second to apologize for the lack of updates. Things have been really busy here and I haven't had much time in front of the computer. I hope everyone is enjoying the good weather. I was really expecting it to be much hotter by this time in the summer. Anyway, go outside and ride cause the humidity is coming!
Trey, Jesus (Derek), Little Jeff, and I went to New Orleans yesterday to ride Fastlane along with some Tulane street with Hasslehoff. We had a blast. Fastlane is one of my favorite parks now and I see why Hasslehoff won that contest a while back. I couldn't get over how nice the Tulane campus was not to mention all the spots we rode in the short amount of time we rode.
Why did we ride for a short amount of time? Well, we were in a parking tower and as you may or may not know, sometimes there are large concrete horizontal pillars that are low to the ground. Unfortunately for Jesus, he did not realize how low one of these horizontal concrete pillars actually was and he got clotheslined by the pillar at a pretty respectable speed while trying to hop-manual a curb. He began bleeding out of the top of his head where he made contact with the pillar and we were all kind of shitting ourselves for a second there. Upon inspecting the pillar, there was a little bit of Jesus left on it. Blood was pouring all down his face but don't sweat it because he definitely walked back to the car just fine in fact while walking back, he said, as seriously as possible, "Man, why couldn't this have happened to Jeff" which provided about 5 minutes of funny for the rest of the group.
We drove to the Touro hospital E.R. and after we got there, we waited about 3 hours for Jesus to get about 10 minutes of stitches done. Just as we were about to walk out from impatience, the nurse made us leave the room so they could start numbing Jesus' head. 2 hours later, it's 5 AM and we're back home in Lafayette. Sorry for not taking pictures but thanks to Hasslehoff for keeping Fastlane open and giving shitty directions on the highway. IT'S GETTING HOFF IN HEEEEERRRRRRREEEEEEEEE!
Hey guys, sorry about the lack of updates on the site but I've been busy. I took a little weekend trip to Austin, Texas with Micky Marshall and David Gamble. The trip was ridiculous- Austin is the most laid back place I have ever been. Big thanks to Joel for letting us stay at his house and showing us a side of Austin I have never seen. There is so much more to do there than just ride bikes. Also, big thanks to Seth and Lisa for providing us with some wonderful conversation and freestyle rapping.
We also got to check out the new Etnies video, Grounded, and I'll just sum it up like this: BUY THE VIDEO!!!! Not only is the riding COMPLETELY out of hand, but the production quality and style of the video are unbelievable. If you buy any video this year or next year, buy this one. Companies need support from riders to keep cranking out videos of this caliber, so do your part and pick up Grounded.
Unfortunately, nobody on the trip had a camera with them so we don't have any sweet pics to look at, but we did a fair share of riding 9th St. I was a big titty and didn't jump Main Line but I had a good time riding the small jumps and watching Micky Marshall roast over the big jumps. Thanks to the 9th St. locals for the hospitality and the BBQ on Sunday afternoon. Talk about not wanting to leave...
The ride home went by really quickly because everyone in the truck had some tall tale to tell about the weekend. But the story-telling crown definitely goes to Micky Marshall. He kept David and I entertained for about 5 hours with crazy stories about him growing up in Ohio. Thanks a bunch for passing the time Micky.
That's about it for now. Big thanks to Joel and his roommates Seth and Lisa for showing us around, and to all the 9th St. locals for being so chill.
Yesterday TJ Gills got a wild hair and built a ramp for his living room. Why? Because it was raining, why else? So his roommates decided to take TJ's new creation to the parking lot across the street for a killer afternoon session. Erik Stevenson was there with the camera so here are some new pics for you, straight from the Kirby Smith parking lot.
The two transplants: Lil Pat from Memphis and David Gamble in the background from Las Vegas
Group shot of the parking lot assassins
Lil Pat with a lawnmower on the 2ft quarter
Brad Jensen with a brakeless barspin after walking Kailon through campus
Cody Miller can do footjam tailwhips at will- Cody don't play that
David Gamble with a no-handed footjam nosepick. Look at his crazy left elbow- creepy
Look for some video footage of the indoor riding sessions in the near future. I am in the process of learning how this Mac business works so I have my hands full at the moment. But I got that hot internet in my room now so things will be coming together nicely.
Here is a quick little video from Memphis local Josh Beckmeyer. You can see all of the hot moves from Nacho Ordinary Contest including Mickey Marshall riding fakie with a sombrero in front of is face. I don't know who the music is by (sorry) and I didn't have time to put the names in (double sorry).
Again, BIG thanks to everyone that helped put on the contest: Gus at Capitol Cyclery, Sputnic BMX, Shadow Conspiracy, ICON Visuals, Savage South, Albe's BMX Mailorder, Rukus Boardsports and Props Visual.
If you were missing the music aspect of The Nacho Ordinary Contest (formerly Transitions) this year, then rejoice because 4 of Lafayette's very own bike stunter's play in the band The Fight Between Frames (myspace.com/thefightbetweenframes) who just so happens to be having a CD release Jam at Buck Nutty's Skate Ranch on Saturday, May 19th so now you can ride and listen to live music afterall.
Everything kicks off at around 1:00 PM and it will be an all day event so be sure to forget your helmet and bring a 12 pack (if you're of age OF COURSE bruh) because where else can you get lose, ride a private park, and dodge holes all at the same time?
Just so we're clear, you can ride and/or skate while you listen to live music.
Also, be sure to take a look at the map on the flyer. If you notice anything strange about the map, please copy and paste
"Tyler, you're a dumbass."

Jared Navarre from Shreveport is putting on event in his backyard on May 19th that you may be interested in checking out called Palestine. Interesting name to say the least and from what I hear, Jared has lined up about 10 bands, some food(free?) and a whole lot of fun! I can’t remember what year this event is going on but from what I have heard is a really good time and it keeps getting better each year. If you are in or near the Shreveport area or if you don’t mind making the drive, check Jared and his backyard event out. Maybe hit Jared up for some questions regarding the event if you are interested.
Here are some pics from this weekend courtesy of Erik Stevenson. Erik got a new camera over the weekend so be on the lookout for more pictures on the site in the future. The contest was pretty much a complete blast and I think its safe to say everyone who showed up had a great time. Here are the results:
Expert 1st Rob Crews 2nd Dan from Tampa 3rd Broc Raiford
Pro 1st Tony Malouf 2nd Cody Miller 3rd David Gamble
Best Trick David Gamble- Icepick on the wallride (RIDICULOUS)
Best Moustache First Place Jon Rogers Dead Last Brock Gomez
I'd like to take some time to thank the folks who made the contest possible. First off, thanks to all the BR locals who put down time, effort and money into making this weekend possible. I think its safe to say everything paid off in the end. Also, thanks to our sponsors: Gus and Capitol Cyclery, Albe's BMX mailorder, Icon Visuals, Savage South, Sputnic, Props Visual, Shadow Conspiracy and UGP. I'd also like to thank my parents, Jay and Beckie Gomez, for coming out to cook hotdogs for the contest. That was really cool guys. Thanks to James from Fastlane for giving us the mic system so I could bust peoples' chops all day. That's all I can think of right now, and I am sure I am forgetting someone but the weekend was a big, fantastic blur.
Also, everyone who entered the contest but did not place needs to get in touch with me. Prizes arrived yesterday from Shadow, Sputnic and UGP so I want to split them up between the guys who didn't win anything at Nacho. If you live in BR just stop by the house and pic some stuff up. If you live elsewhere send me an email with your address and I'll try to ship some prizes to you ASAP.
Thanks again to everyone involved with the contest and all the people who showed up to make Nacho Ordinary Contest exactly that.
The weather really sucks, I'm out of school and don't start work til Monday. So, the internet and I become pretty close these past couple of days. I sent over a video to THECOMEUPBMX.NET that Cody and I edited like a year and a half ago while my ankle was broken. Go peep it there or just check it out here.
Just checked weather.com and it looks like the weather will be good for Saturday. It's still 50% chance all day Friday but hopefully the weather will hold out for us so we can get some of the ramp painted. Either way, we are going to have way too much fun this weekend. See you Saturday.
Hey, Aster/Iowa locals, tomorrow afternoon we will be painting the ramp, weather permitting (60% chance of rain tomorrow night, but only 20% on Saturday). We don't have a sprayer this time around so we'll have to do it the old fashioned way with rollers. If everyone could pick up a paint roller from Wal-Mart that would really help speed things up. After the ramp is painted I'd like to get everyone together to talk about the contest and the future of the ramp. I'd really like for everyone to be out to help work and pass the time. We'll be meeting at the ramp at 3:00, so if you are around please be there at 3. If you read this tell your roommates and anyone else who needs to be there. I understand it's short notice and some of you won't be able to make it because of work, but if you can make it we can really REALLY use your help.
Hey guys, got some awesome news. Gus from Capitol REALLY came through with prizes for the contest. Don't believe me? Check out the pics:
Gus gave us everything in those pictures aside from the Props videos to the left and the Albe's hoodies and gift certificate. I'd like to take some time to thank Gus for being so generous and making the prizes for the contest legit. Gus has been around the Baton Rouge scene longer than anyone (myself included) and he's been holding it down since day one. If you are around Jones Creek Road stop by Capitol and hit him up. They have plenty of BMX stuff still in stock (they didn't give it ALL away for the contest).
I'm still expecting stuff from UGP and Sputnic so they'll be plenty of prizes to go around for all of those who enter. We also need paint rollers donated so we can paint the ramp tomorrow, so if anyone has the hookup with that just bring 'em by the house. We could also use a few extra hands so if you can make it come on out and bring a paint roller with you (locals).
Hey guys, sorry it's been a while but I've been pretty busy as of late. Just checking in to give everyone out there a little update on the progress with this weekend's contest.
So the Nacho Ordinary Contest will be this Saturday, May 5th at the Iowa St. Ramps here in Baton Rouge. The ramps are looking really good- the entire section from the box jumps to the wall ride has been re-covered and is super solid and fast. We water-sealed the ramps yesterday and the plan is to paint them tomorrow so they will be nice and pretty for this weekend.
Prizes have been rolling in over the last few days too. BIG thanks to Props Visual and Albe's BMX mailorder. Those guys really came through on short notice so be sure to support those companies that support your local scene. Stuff is on the way from Sputnic and UGP which is pretty sweet. Also, the local shops here in Baton Rouge have been stepping up to the plate and we will have products from Capitol as well as Mid-City Bikes. Big thanks to those guys for lending a hand.
Word on the street is the St. Louis crew will be in attendance which should be a real treat for everyone. Also, Tony Malouf is heading down south for the contest with a few guys from the Great Lakes area. As always, the Savage South will be in full effect with Louis and Geoff making their way down from Jackson, MS. Speaking of Savage South, Louis throwing up $100 for the best trick contest. However, there are a few stipulations for entering which will be revealed the day of the contest. Another late addition to the lineup for the contest is the first annual Dirty Sanchez Moustache Contest.
Show up in Baton Rouge with your best 'stache and you will win the admiration of your peers and possibly some sweet prizes. We didn't name this thing Nacho Ordinary Contest for nothing- be prepared for anything.
We will also have a copy of the new [sic] Media video Nobody Special. I got to see the flick this past weekend and it's solid. Lots of good riding from folks you may or may not know. Alex Magallan and Nathan Williams are ANIMALS!!!
One thing we can't control is the weather so here's the latest: 30% chance of rain on Saturday with a slightly higher chance on Friday. It's still to early to predict the weather for this weekend so everyone keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer if that's your thing.
Also, I'd like to thanks those locals in Baton Rouge who came together over the last few weeks to get prepared for the contest. It's easy to just ride the ramp everyday but working together on a project that you funded with your own money takes some real work. Big thanks to TJ, Jon, Seth, and G-rad for throwing up some $$$ for the re-build and everyone else who put in some real time working on the ramp.
