Brock on Mega Tour...

Brock is on Mega Tour filming for the Albes team. Check for updates from those guys on Albes.com. So stoked for him. Talked to him at the end of the first night of the trip and everything seemed to be going really well.

I'll be in Joplin for the JoMoPro and I hear a lot of folk from the South are going too. Can't wait to see you all!

Psyched to see all the updates on this site. It is awesome to be able to see what you guys are up to.

Off to work...

As always, check out www.ridebmx.com daily! Duh.

TBC stuff

The man, the myth, the legend, Jonathan Lee Rogers has been working on some new TBC shirt designs that are pretty frickin HOT! (add me cause im HHAWWTT!)

.

These shirts are sure make you run faster, jump higher. and pull in all the ladies! The price of these will be a little bit more than the others(around 25 bucks) because it takes a REALLY LONG time to make and they will be on American Apparel tees. Keep an eye out for lots of different colors in this run of tees. Also, these are made with the sweat of Jons very own love pump. Well worth the money BRUH!

Also, if you didn't know, Walter Pieringers website finally dropped, timeofyourlifemedia.com. I suggest taking a look around. HOLLA!

Baby steps...

Well the weekend is gone but that's not stopping us from working on the ramps/yard. Today we moved all of the old plywood out of the yard and into the garage to salvage what we could before the rain comes. Raav and I also spent about 2 hours bracing some of the bowled corners and the 9 ft. It is amazing how much difference a few 2X4s can make. The 9 ft. doesn't creak anymore and the 6 ft. quarter after the hip is much stiffer.
Also, after last year's poison ivy outbreak after Transitions, I decided to try to rid the yard of that retched plant. I sprayed about 2 gallons of diesel and extra strength Roundup on all of the poison ivy in the yard. Hopefully this time around nobody has to go to the hospital for cortisone shots.
Final note, tomorrow during the day a couple of us are going to be raking up the leaves in the yard and cleaning up a bit. If anyone has a rake to donate or some heavy duty trash bags we could really use them. Give me a call in the A.M. if you have something that will help out.

Also, I feel like an idiot because I didn't notice this earlier, but the Savage South online store is open for business. Check it out here: www.savagesouth.com/store. Jade Jacob has a shirt named after him. Next person to get a Savage South tattoo gets their own signature shirt. Probably not...

Band Aid

For those of you who haven't heard, fellow BMX rider Erik Stevenson was involved in a motorcycle accident a few weeks ago. The crash resulted in a good bit of medical expenses, so Erik's friends decided to get together and put on a benefit show in order to help raise money to pay off some of the bills. If you are anywhere in the Baton Rouge area you should definitely go to this show.

The good news is Erik is recovering well- he may have been seen crusing around the Iowa St. ramps this weekend on a wildly painted bike.

Erik a few months back on a bike with a relatively mellow paint job

Also, anyone with news can hit me up on the old email (bmxman187(at)hotmail.com). I can always use content for the site. Now go outside and ride before it gets too hot!!

Ramp Progress

Well guys, everyone in BR really came through yesterday. The entire box jump section of the ramp has been redone and it is BUTTER!! It is really solid and super smooth. There were a couple of surprises along the way, some broken studs in the landings and lips, but the job went really smoothly and everyone got along.

During the construction

The ramp will definitely be dialed by Cinco de Mayo for the contest. Check the site out later in the week for the flyer and additional info.

We've had some visitors over the weekend also; Geoff Simmons and Larkin Kelly made the drive down from Jackson,MS to lend a hand with the ramp and test it out, and the Guidry's from Lafayette came over to escape the rain.

Geoff Simmons- lookback out of the 9ft quarter. He has to haul ass and jump the big box backwards to hit the 9.

Geoff Simmons testing out the new landing. He thought his 270 tables weren't good. Umm, yeah.

I'd just like to say thanks to all the BR locals for coming out yesterday and working hard to get the ramps redone. It was awesome to see everybody working together to keep the scene rolling.

Sunday workday?

This Sunday at 6 o clock, we will be adding some new stuff and repairing some old at Fastlane. a couple of of years of fly-out tricks up the bank and quarter have taken their tole and need a little TLC. We will be adding some more "skater friendly" things like a new rail, a sub box, and a some wierd slanted bank/wall thing that should be pretty fun for bikes also. We're open to suggestions if you have any or a helping hand if you have one of those. I am sure everyone will be tired from working on the BTR ramp, but I'm just throwing it out there. If you have any ideas, call me or email me oomesobikey@aol.com. HOLLA!

Saturday workday

Just letting everyone know we are planning on working on the ramp this Saturday around noon-ish. The decks of the box jumps are pretty beat up so we will be pulling that up and fixing/replacing all of the broken areas. Also, the original straight section of the ramp needs a good bit of new plywood- it is pretty beat up after the last 2 years. Some of the softer parts of the ramp will be reinforced, mainly the quarters and decks. Anyone is welcome to come out and give a hand. We need people with drills, tape measures, hammers, saws, wood and money so if you have any of those handy bring em out and we'll get the ramp in shape. Shoot me an email if you have any questions.

Let's keep it going brah! November 2005

News for the masses

Hey there guys, just got back from the skatepark meeting in Houma, LA. There was actually a pretty good turnout with about 40 people at the meeting including a lot of parents and younger skaters. As far as I could tell I was the only BMXer in attendance but hopefully we'll be changing that soon.

Anyway, the group is still in the organizing stages and they seem to be getting the ball rolling. There was talk about whether the group would be a non-profit organization or if they would try to get a private company to back the whole operation. Also, they talked a good bit about examples of skateparks that they would like to use as models which brings us to a pretty sore spot for BMXers: Hammond's Dreamland Park. This was the most widely cited example of a good "public" park, which came as no surprise, being it is the only one in the state. The majority of the group had either been to the park or at least heard about it.

Throughout the meeting everyone was given a chance to speak so I took some time to try to explain the situation in Hammond from a BMXers point of view. I also took time to let everyone at the meeting know that there is a large BMX community in South Louisiana that is more than willing to help out with the ongoing struggle to get more skateparks in the state. Here's where you can help out- take some time to poke around www.houmaskatepark.com to see what's happening down there. There is information about upcoming meetings/events for the park planning process as well as a forum to discuss the planning process. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET INVOLVED DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE PROCESS- THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT ANOTHER ANTI-BMX PARK IS NOT BUILT!!!!! Start talking in the forums on the site. Start asking questions. Start getting involved. I know Houma isn't exactly close to most of the people who read this, but neither is Allen, TX, the closest concrete, bike-friendly park worth a shit. I urge you to do whatever you can to help get more BMXers involved in this project. And please, be respectful when you are communicating with people- the last thing we need is a BMX vs. skateboarding situation.

CINCO DE MAYO CONTEST!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In other news, there will be a contest at the Iowa St. ramps on May 5th, 2007... yes, Cinco de Mayo. This contest is not Transitions, although we plan on making it as much fun as Transitions but with more riders and crazier riding. This weekend we will begin working on the ramps (weather permitting) in order to get them in top shape for the contest. Be on the lookout for a flyer in the near future as well as updates on the ramp progress. As of right now there will only be 2 classes for the contest- Expert and Pro. Entrance fees for the contest have not been decided yet but the Pro class will be awarded cash prizes with at least 75% payout between 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If anyone wants to help out with the contest email me at bmxman187(at)hotmail.com and we'll see what we can do.

If anyone has some noteworthy info drop me an email at the above address and I'll put it up. Until next time...

Skatepark meeting tonight in Houma

Hey guys, I know this is super last minute but I just got an email from a skater in South Louisiana giving me this info:

"It looks like the city of Houma is gearing up for an epic battle. They are trying to get a public skatepark built, and I for one think it is about time. Anyone who has been busted for skating in Houma and Thibodaux can back me up on this. So, if any of you have the time, it really would be great if you could drive down to Houma to make the meeting. The more seats that are filled, the better. The City council has to see firsthand that there is a definite need for a skatepark, and every body in the building helps...

here's the info:

When: Wednesday Mar 21, 2007
at 6:30 PM
Where: Bayou Cane Fire Dept. Central Station
6166 West Main st.
Houma, LA 70364"

Once again, I know this is about as last minute as it gets but this is where things get done. Let's not this turn into another Hammond park. I'll be at the meeting (I was in Houma about an hour ago for work and got the email at my parent's house in Luling) and I will be sure to talk to some people and get some email addresses so I can keep everyone in the loop.

Catch up time

Hey folks, not too much going on in the Baton Rouge area. The weather has been up and down and some riding has been going on here and there. I still haven't gotten any pics from the Fastlane contest so if anyone has some they'd like to see on the site shoot me an email (bmxman187@hotmail.com).

The new-and-improved Savage South site is up and running- you can check it out at www.savagesouth.com/blahg In other Savage South news the latest issue of Props has a ton of Savage products at the end in the New Products section. If you see something you like you will be able to order it from the new site in about a week.

Also, I am heading out to North Carolina at the end of the month for Props Megatour. I'll be on the trip filming the Albe's team as we make our way around the central east coast. It should be an interesting trip, being that I've never been on anything like this in the past. The rest of the teams on the trip are:
Team Major Air
Kink Bikes
Harley-Davidson
Woodward Camp
Failure Bikes

I'll be sure to update the site when I get back from the trip with some tall tales of BMX stunting.

Also, if you haven't check out the Sputnic BMX site (www.sputnic-bmx.com) you should give it a look. These guys came through New Orleans and Baton Rouge about a month ago and really shredded. There are a bunch of pictures from some spots you may recognize from the trip, so take some time to dig around the site a little bit. The parts are legit and the guys on the team are some genuinely nice folks. The pic above is one of their shirts that is pretty sweet, but be warned- the green shirt is SUPER bright. You may need sunglasses.

The new Empire BMX video "Chill Bro" will be premiering in Austin, TX on April 7th, so check the flyer below for the details. There's a bit more information about the premier on www.empirebmx.com so if you are planning on making the trek out to ATX you should check the Empire site first.

Finally, the JOMOPRO contest will be taking place in Joplin, Missouri on April 13-15th. The park is ridiculous and there is already a lengthy list of some pretty killer riders signed up for the event. You can check out all the details at http://www.jomopro.net/jomopro07/
There will be some Louisiana riders making the trip up for the contest so be on the lookout for some coverage of the event on the Interneck.

That's all for now, it looks like the sun is coming out so I believe I'll be going pedal around. Until next time...
