Critical Mass Today!!

Just letting everyone know that its the last Friday of the month so that means Critical Mass! For those of you who have never attended Critical Mass, its just a big group of bike riders from around the city riding the streets of BR. The goal of the event/organization is to raise awareness about bicycle traffic in Baton Rouge, but our goal with it is to have fun. Everyone meets at the clock tower on LSU's campus at 5:30, then a destination is picked and we take to the streets. Hope to see everyone there.

Nobody Special

Just got word from Chris Mahaffey from Nashville, TN and its some pretty sweet news. The long awaited [SIC] media video, Nobody Special, will be premiering at the end of April at 6th Avenue Skatepark in Nashville. Word on the street is there will be a contest on Saturday, April 28th at the park with the video premier following the contest.

You can check out a preview of the video on [SIC]'s mySpace site: www.myspace.com/sicmedia - It looks pretty, um, well, sick.

You may also be able to find some updated info about the contest on 6th Ave.'s site: www.myspace.com/sixthavenueskatepark

Not much is going on aside from that, but if you have some info hit me up through the email (bmxman187(at)hotmail.com). Some pictures would be nice- I don't have a camera and I know most of you don't read, you'd rather just look at pics.

I am going to be on MTV's Scar Stories this Tuesday! Watch it!

Who: Fat (and Tony Neyer of Sputnic BMX)
What: MTV's new show, Scar Stories — A show about action sports crashes and the stories behind them.
When: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 — 10:30pm EST / 9:30 CST
Where: Your house, your TV, MTV
Why: Because I fractured my skull three years ago in one of the gnarliest crashes ever caught on tape! (See photo below.)
How: Turn on your TV, put it on MTV, sit back and watch...

I don't have MTV and I'll be en route to Japan when the show airs. Maybe someone can tape it for me and send a .mov file over the Interweb?

Sputnic BMX

Last week a couple of guys from Sputnic BMX were in Baton Rouge on a roadtrip to Texas. They liked Baton Rouge so much they actually just stayed here and scrapped the Texas idea. A lot of really good stuff went down (sorry, no pics) but if you would like to see more from these guys check out their site: www.sputnic-bmx.com. They are a really cool bunch of dudes that can ride the hell out of some BMX.

You may want to check out Tony Malouf's little video on the site too:
http://www.sputnic-bmx.com/tonymedit.html
The dude is a complete shredder, but he got hurt while riding the ramps and then got ridiculously sick the next day.

Last Wednesday was also Cody Miller's 21st Birthday Celebration. Basically every BMX rider from Baton Rouge as well as the Sputnic team went out to Red Star to welcome Cody into adulthood. Luckily, the Tiger Weekly Party Pics guy was at the bar so we have some pictures from the event. If you look closely you'll probably spot a BMXer or two (a good way to identify a bike rider is by the large, open mouth, black or brown hoodie, and the vulgar expressions). Check out the pics here if you are really bored:

That's all I have for now. Don't forget about the Fastlane contest coming up quick.

Where have I been?

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry I haven't been doing my part in updating the website but between school, getting kicked out my place after the semester started, and trying to sell my Vespa, I have not had a whole lot of time to update. I also do not have internet at my place anymore. However, I have been riding a lot and I recently filled out a grant application along with a 2 page essay to receive an additional $9,000 to our current $30,000 for the Lafayette public park. I don't want to talk about anything else right now because things seem to fall through a lot with the Lafayette public park but I know for a fact right now that we have $39,000 available for ramps.

I've been planning on doing a Steve Harris/Damon Sampy interview for a month now so hopefully I can get that done soon but no promises.

Here are a few pictures so you aren't too bored with this update.

Art and news, news and art

I got this art awhile ago and forgot to ever post it. Sorry! Harold Norton from Florida drew this up for a tattoo idea. PEEP IT!

We broke ground at Fastlane!! Construction of a X-GAYmes/ Gravity Games/ Olympics style ramp is being built at Fastlane and will more than likely be done tonight. Come ride on Thursday to check it out!

And dont forget about this...

Mexico Trip...

I switched over the Blogger account to the new Google version—not quite sure what the difference is but Ooti and Brock told me to do so. So now I guess the rest of the folks who have access to the Blog will have to switch too.

I went to the Red Bull 14 flatland contest in Mexico this past weekend and it was amazing! Check out the Ride site for the rest of the week for highlights, video and photos. Here are a few personal shots as a sneak peek. (Click them to see them larger in a new window.)

The awesome hotel that Red Bull Mexico hooked us up with. The food was amazing too—and all free! (You know I like that!)

The first day we took horses to the top of the mountain. Yes, we rode all the way to that building in the top left corner of the shot—ruined ghost towns... Crazy!

Terry and his trusty steed overlooking the city of Real de Caroce in San Louis Potosi, Mexico.

An overview of the city. Absolutely beautiful.

A quick glimpse of the contest area before things kicked off. Look at the Ride site later in the week for what it was really like there.

Short and sweet... I update Web sites too often to get too into this right now.

Flipside Premier

Just a little reminder that Capitol Cyclery will be having a video premier tomorrow night (Saturday) at 6:15 at their Jones Creek Road location. RideBMX's "Flipside" DVD will be shown and will be for sale at the shop. When you purchase the DVD you get a free one-year subscription to RideBMX- not a bad deal at all.
I hope everyone has been practicing their manuals...
