JoMoPro Video

The video from last weekend's JoMoPro is up on VitalBMX.com but I got it posted right below. The contest was killer and everyone there seemed to have a pretty good time.

See More BMX Videos at VitalBMX.com

The ramp has been undergoing surgery for the last few days and it is almost complete. I'll have pics up sooner or later but in the meantime everyone can imagine how nice a fast it is going to feel. Big thanks to everyone who has been helping out with the ramp.

Fuel TV

Hey guys, I was just digging around a site you may have heard of, um, bmxonline.com I think, and I found this little bit of info regarding Props and their next shows on Fuel TV:

On this episode of “Props,” airing this Sunday, April 22, 2007 at 9:00 pm ET (6:00 pm PT), and 11 more times throughout the week:

Although after only being around for a few years, the Transitions Jam in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has become a great meld of BMX and music in the south.

“Props” airs the following times during the week:
Sunday 9:00 pm ET (6:00 pm PT)
Sunday 12:00 am ET (9:00 pm PT)
Monday 11:30 am ET (8:30 am PT)
Tuesday 2:00 am ET (11:00 pm PT)
Tuesday 8:30 am ET (5:30 am PT)
Tuesday 11:00 pm ET (8:00 pm PT)
Wednesday 12:00 pm ET (9:00 am PT)
Wednesday 3:30 pm ET (12:30 pm PT)
Wednesday 6:30 pm ET (3:30 pm PT)
Friday 9:00 am ET (6:00 am PT)
Saturday 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT)
Sunday 9:00 am ET (6:00 am PT)

There you have it folks, the Transitions Jam from last year will be on Fuel TV this week so all of you with cable should be able to see what happened at the last Transitions.

More interesting news Iowa St. in BR. Brad from Icon Visuals has been working on this gem of a poster for quite some time and it looks like they are almost ready for sale!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

What's there not to like about this poster? It has Taj in it, its a limited edition (so hot right now) and its printed by hand right here in good ole Baton Rouge.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Mr. Jensen hard at work in his studio. Not quite sure when these babies will be up for sale but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime check out www.iconvisuals,com for updates and other Icon products.

Also, the list of sponsors for Nacho Ordinary Contest has been growing. Big thanks go out to Johnny at Sputnic (www.sputnic-bmx.com) and Shadow Conspiracy (http://www.theshadowconspiracy.com). Also, Flip over at Albe's mailorder will be sending some stuff our way (www.ables.com), so big thanks to those guys.

In other Baton Rouge news, local BMX and MTB veteran Hunter Roth is having another art show at Chelsea's Cafe tonight. The show features the artwork of Hunter and fellow artists TJ Black, Charles Barbier and many others. Several other shows are taking place tonight at studios around the Perkins Road overpass, so if you are in the neighborhood you should definitely check it out.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Some of Hunter's artwork etched into his skin for eternity.

Finally, the JoMoPro was in Joplin, Missouri last weekend and it was a BLAST!!! Autumn Ramp Park is RIDICULOUS!!! The riding at the contest was off the hook and it looked like everyone had a really good time. I shot and edited a video from the Pro finals that will be posted on Vitalbmx.com tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Keep your eyes on the site for the next few days to see the progress we've made on the ramp. What lies beneath 2 year-old plywood is quite a sight!

- additional comments: I tied a shoestring around my top and downtube to keep my cable in place but before I did that, I wrapped it around the cable once so it would move even less once I wrapped it around the top and downtube. I also found these little sticky rubber circles that go under furniture legs at home depot so I stuck one on my downtube right under the cable hanger so it wouldn't bang up the frame and make that 'clanking' sound that hasslehoff's bike always makes.

Broc Raiford at JoMoPro

So if you are not keeping up on the RIDEBMX SITE like you should be, here is a little update. Broc Raiford qualified for his class and is going to be in the finals! If youv'e ridden with him, you'll know he learns ridiculously fast and isn't scared of anything. My hunch is that he'll win because I have never seen him get a place below first. Naturalist for sure.

Neighborhood Superstar

This is what I am talking about! Jason St. Romain came through with some pictures from a recent Advocate article about BMX racing. This is a good example of how you guys can help us keep the site updated. Jason has been riding a bike for longer than a lot of you guys have been living so go check him out at the track. He'll probably beat you down the first straight and then hook you up with free cable.

Houma Skatepark Newspaper Article

For those of you who remember there was a meeting in Houma a few weeks ago about getting a skatepark built in the city. I found a copy of the newspaper article from the meeting on the Small Time Skates website so here's the link: http://smalltimeskates.com/sts/ If you want more information about the progress with the Houma skatepark check out www.houmaskatepark.com.

If anyone has news, pictures, videos or anything else related to the site send me an email at bmxman187(at)hotmail.com. I am running out of stuff to post on the site.

Nacho Ordinary Contest

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Sorry guys, no Transitions this year, but we've decided to put together a contest in order to keep the springtime BMX scene rolling down in Baton Rouge, LA. Nacho Ordinary Contest is just that- it's not in a skatepark, there's no beginner class and it's run by a bunch of locals who just want to have a good time.

The contest is on May 5th, 2007 at the Iowa St. ramps in Baton Rouge, LA. Signups begin at 9 AM and will last until 11 AM. Shortly after 11 Expert practice will start (people who have registered will be able to ride beforehand). We'll be grouping the classes into groups of 5 for practice and runs. Pro registration will be open throughout the day and Pro practice will start when the Expert class is finished. Same thing goes for the Pro class- groups of 5 for practice.

We hope to see everyone here in Baton Rouge on May 5th for the Cinco de Mayo contest. People are welcome to show up early for the contest but keep in mind that we cannot provide a place for everyone to stay. See all of you on May 5th.

Megatour is DONE

Hey guys, I just got back from one of the best BMX trips I've ever gone on- Megatour with team Albe's. I was really nervous going into the trip because I had never met anyone on the Albe's team, nor had I traveled through the area we were going through. All I can say is the trip was amazing and my nervousness was wiped away by the first night. Everyone in the Albe's crew is completely awesome, both on their bikes and off. And while I can't talk too much about the riding that went down I can tell you about the people on the trip and the impressions they made on me:

1. Flip: Part-owner of Albe's, married father of one, complete shredder, 100% nice guy. Flip drove the rig for the entire trip and didn't complain once. He also funded a large portion of the trip out of his own pocket which says a lot about the guy. He's been around the BMX industry for a while and after spending over a week with him I totally understand why he is so well liked.

2. Kris Marcum: Miller High Life enthusiast, David Hasslehoff look-a-like, original trick stunter, Creed impersonator. Kris was definitely on a mission for this trip. He was out to have fun and from the looks of it the mission was accomplished. Marcum did wild tricks like 360 ninja drops off of sub boxes. When not on his bike he could be found with a High Life in one hand and a megaphone in the other. Creed songs were usually being sung through the megaphone- probably the low point of the trip.

3. Mike Spinner: Professional BMX rider, internet addict, geniune nice guy, birthday boy. Spinner's 19th birthday was during the trip and he got some pretty sweet birthday presents. When he wasn't on the laptop or the cell phone he could be found doing tricks that are impossible- literally. The kid is on top of his game which usually sparks some sort of envy/ ill will from me but not with this guy. He's so nice you can just smile and say, "Only Spinner".

4. Matt Sparks: Articulate speaker, windshield wiper master, hip-hop enthusiast. I have never seen someone approach BMX like Sparks. If he's already done a trick he doesn't want to film it. If someone has already done it he won't even bother trying a trick. He warms up with about 2 runs then hits whatever he's riding full speed. He probably wrecked the most on the trip, but he also did some of the craziest stuff I've ever seen. Four windshield wipers (whip to whip back) in a row? Yeah, that's Matt Sparks.

5. Dane Wild: Pizza addict, street shredder, myspace feind. I had seen Dane in a few videos before and I knew he was part of the FBM crew so I wasn't sure what to expect. After hanging out with him for ten minutes I knew he was an all around good kid. He smiles all the time and is always down for some fun. He has a really good outlook on life for a guy his age and I think BMX could use a few more kids like Dane.

6. Shanton Wilson: Ape, speed demon, long hair don't care, big time stunt dude. Shanton was one of the loudest guys on the trip- both his mouth and his riding. He could be found hollering out of the bus at nice cars or hot girls. His riding was pretty much the same way; loud and balls out. Shanton always did the biggest stuff out there with a mix of precision and fearlessness. That dude is something else.

7. Daniel Dhers: Venezuelan transplant, nubmer one smack-talker, SUPER-PRO. I'd seen Daniel ride in videos before and I knew he was a contest rider, but I didn't know how he'd handle being on the road with a crew like us. He came through with flying colors and provided non-stop entertainment with his verbal battles with Spinner. When it came down to riding the guys got it done. He did the craziest tricks over and over again... perfectly. He even threw down some lines on street which was a bit of a surprise. His Spanish accent made even the most simple statements seem hilarious.

8. Vinnie Vasquez: Cougar hunter, street sleeper, party-fun-time dude. There isn't too much that I can say about Vinnie except he's wild. He spent the days commanding his bike to do wild moves and his nights were spent tracking down some of the shadiest ladies this side of the Mississippi. The kid had fun at every single stop of the trip and worked his knee repeatedly but didn't stop. When it came down to street I wasn't expecting anything crazy from Vinnie but he proved me wrong. Way wrong.

Well that's all I have for this post. Everyone on the trip was completely awesome and made me feel right at home. I'd like to say thanks to everyone on the trip, but especially Flip. He is a wonderful guy who's doing an awesome job of keeping BMX on the right track. If you want to check out Flip's blog from the trip click here.

Until next time...
