For those of you who don't know, Critical Mass is today in Baton Rouge. Meet up at the Clock Tower on LSU's campus at 5:30 for a hell of a good time. There should be a good turnout with school just opening back up. Bring some friends!
Timmy from New Orleans dropped me a line to let me know he's getting a street ride organized in New Orleans this weekend. Here's what he had to say:
"I am trying to get an night session from Saturday - Sunday morning; "The Ride Til Dawn Session". Meet up around 11:30 pm Saturday in Metairie, Downtown NOLA and for the willing at heart B.R. Please hit me up tell friends."
There you have it guys. If that sounds like fun to you then drop Timmy a line through his MYSPACE.
Jon Rogers has been working on a few edits for TBC. The one below is the Winter 07 Mix. Check out the new tees at the end of the video- fresh for back to school.
No, not the high school dance kind of homecoming...
I miss riding with all you guys and decided to take some vacation time to do so. I'll be getting into the BR airport around 4:30 this Saturday (Sept. 1st) and plan on heading straight to the ramps to ride. Hopefully it's not raining! I'm definitely down to have a party or go out that night. (Yeah, strange, but I've actually been going out a lot. I dare say I'm even good at it now. Ha!)
I'll be between Baton Rouge, New Orleans/Luling, and Mandeville until the 9th.
I'm going to try to film some clips for our staff section in the upcoming Ride video and would also like to film/shoot photos with you guys. Sure it's vacation, but you know I never stop working!
Looking forward to seeing you all. Let's shred! - F-Teezy
Colin Sanford gave me a copy of his senior project video to post up on the site. Colin's a good kid so I decided to post it up for everyone's viewing enjoyment. You can check it out by clicking HERE.
If you want to find out more about Mr. Sanford you can check out his MYSPACE. (That's where I scored the sweet pic above).
Hey everyone, just letting you know how much fun yesterday was. Good turnout for the BBQ, decent weather and veggie burgers all over the place! If anybody has some pics to send me I would appreciate it. Hit me up on the email (bmxman187(at)hotmail.com.
Hey, sorry that I haven't posted this sooner but my computer shit the bed on my. New hard drive is in place, 300 Gigs of video lost. Oh well, those things happen. Anyway, here's some news from the BREC community planning meeting.
First off there was a great turnout at the meeting despite the fact that it was held mid-afternoon on a Tuesday. There were PLENTY of BMX riders in attendance that made sure the representatives from SITE development knew our opinions and concerns.
The guys from SITE development had 3 sample plans up for everyone to look at. They were all similar in size (15,000 sq. ft.) but were very different in layout. The first plan was a skate plaza with a lot of rails, banks and ledges. The second plan had a little more tranny but was still very street-skating oriented. The final plan had about equal amounts of street obstacles and transitions. Overall this plan was the one everyone decided was the best, but it is just an example, not the actual park that will be built.
Plan C
SITE also had a slideshow ready to show off some of their work. Their parks include The Black Pearl in the Cayman Islands, Tony Hawk's backyard and the DC Skate Plaza in Ohio.
After they showed us their work and the different plans they let us layout some different obstacles on our own. This was really cool because everyone was able to get involved, even though the plans were a little hard to understand.
Different obstacles for the group layouts.
The next step in the process is pretty straight-forward. SITE is compiling all of the information from the meeting in order to find out what the locals want in a park. They will come up with 2 plans for the park in Baton Rouge. In 3 weeks they will present the plans to us at a meeting with BREC officials where we will decide on which park to build. From there BREC will post the construction job and start taking bids (SITE doesn't build the park, they just design them).
In the meantime SITE will be creating a website for the Perkins Road project. You will be able to log in and share your ideas on the park planning process. As of right now the site isn't up, but when it is I will post the name and password you need in order to log in and give them feedback. If you just want to check out their work click HERE.
Just reminding everyone that the BREC meeting is TOMORROW NIGHT from 5-7 PM. Repost this on Myspace or Facebook or whatever else you have to help spread the word. Bring friends, family members, pets (maybe not pets) or anyone else who can help us have a BMX presence at the meeting.
I know the weather in Lake Charles is supposed to be pretty doo doo this weekend but that won't stop the flatland jam. There is an alternate location which has been described to me as Pinedrosa in Westlake, LA, just outside of Lake Charles. Just Google it if you are having trouble finding it. If that won't work for you call 337-661-4107, that should get you there.
This may not be as important as Brock's post, but I was looking around the Interweb as I so often do and found this photo of Michael Allen on the American Apparel site.
In other news, I'm heading to BR/NOLA from September 1st-9th. I'll be toting my cycle and camera bag, looking to shred and document shredders.
Hey guys, this may be the most important thing I have ever posted on this site. Pay close attention!!!
THIS TUESDAY, AUGUST 21, THERE WILL BE A COMMUNITY MEETING AT THE PERKINS ROAD BREC PARK FOR THE PUBLIC SKATEPARK. THE MEETING WILL BE FROM 5-7 PM. THIS IS A COMMUNITY INPUT AND DESIGN MEETING.
So here it is guys. I haven't been able to find any official notice on the BREC site about this meeting (big surprise), but I have been told by several people that the meeting will feature several of BREC's planners as well as a representative from the company that won the bid to build the concrete park. This is our chance to show not only BREC but the builders that there is a HUGE BMX community in Baton Rouge and South Louisiana that has been neglected for too long.
I urge anyone who checks out this site that can make it to this meeting to come out and voice your opinions. This is your chance to make sure the park includes stuff YOU want to ride.
Again, the meeting is this Tuesday, August 21, from 5-7 PM at the Perkins Road BREC park. If you need directions or a ride shoot me an email (bmxman187(at)hotmail.com). See all of you there!!
My goodness, I don't know how I forgot to mention this earlier, but long-time Iowa St. local Seth Bradley had a pretty shitty wreck recently. He broke his ankle in 2 places about 3 weeks ago. He's already had surgery and he's holding down the last OG spot at the house with the ramp. Send him a shout-out through the MYSPACE.
Strangely enough, I was going through my ridiculous stack of old tapes today and I found this lil manual clip of Seth. I believe I shot this while I was still getting over my broken ankle. Check it out HERE.
Hey guys, just a reminder there will be a flatland jam in Lake Charles this weekend. Come on out and sweat in a parking lot with a bunch of BMX riders. Should be a really good time for those of you who don't ride flat- there's rumor of a spine and other skatepark inspired obstacles for those of you without incredible balance/patience.
I was surfing around the internet when I found this little clip from the MassBMX site. The site is based out of Massachusetts (I had to Google that to find out how to spell it) and has some interesting stuff to look at. This clip is from the Brace Jam held at the Hopkington skatepark. There are a lot of things in the clip that got me thinking about the last few years, and here they are in no particular order:
1. I used the song in the clip (Blood Red Summer by Coheed and Cambria) for my part in the Louisiana BMX video Chronicles. It's funny how many riders/editors listen to the same music and find the same songs good for editing.
2. The park in the clip is the Hopkington Skatepark where Louis, Geoff and I stopped for an afternoon session in the summer of 05. While we were there Darryl Tocco and the Bad Timing crew were there. We hit the park for a while and then cooled off at a swimming hole up the road. Louisiana SERIOUSLY needs swimming holes!
3. Justin Brace is in the beginning of the clip. Brace came on the 2nd Savage South tour a few years ago. He met Louis and Geoff on a Faction BMX trip down South (There was a picture in the magazine of Lou sliding a CRAZY long rail and Geoff doing a clicked turndown). Brace didn't really know anyone on the trip but before the end of the journey he was friends with pretty much everyone.
During the trip I found out that Brace was having some health problems- his equilibrium was starting to go a little haywire and he was starting to have some problems with his nerves. We found out a few months later that he actually had Lou Gehrig's disease. Louis, Geoff, Chris Wade and I went up to Mass during the summer of 05 to ride trails (and ride the Hopkington skatepark and swim) and hang out with Brace and some friends. The symptoms of the disease were starting to show a little bit more, but Brace was still in really good spirits. He took us around Lowell, Massachusetts and showed us a good time both on and off our bikes.
I haven't talked to Justin since that trip but I have heard that his health has continued to deteriorate. I have talked to some of his friends though, and they say despite his situation he is still a happy guy. He's facing something that none of us could imagine and is still hanging in there with the same positive attitude. Think about that the next time you get mad at something stupid like traffic or not pulling a trick.
The video is really short, so click HERE to check it out.
Lil Pat, Mike and I went down to NOLA yesterday for a little street ride. The heat was ridiuclous but we had a good time anyway. The session was cut short from heat exhaustion but here are some highlights:
1) Saw a homeless man having a seizure and had to call 911 2) Got to ride with Hasslehoff, Lil Brock and Ronald 3) Met Michael Allen's mom 4) Leaving New Orleans at 7 PM and seeing that the temperature was 100 degrees... wow
Sorry there were no pics taken on the trip (I only have a video camera). We didn't film anything down there, and even if we did have stuff to film we couldn't because I left my tapes in my room in BR. Spectacular!
Just a reminder there will be a jam in Lake Charles next Saturday. It's mainly flat riders but there has been talk about bringing out a spine or some other ramps. Also, the tranny walls are right near the jam so all you ramp fellas will have something to ride.
This weekend's trip to Allen, TX was a blast. Lil Pat and Micky threw down some moves while I ran into photographers. We met some cool guys from South Texas- even farther south than Corpus Christi- that's pretty much Mexico. Check out their site here.
While you are at it check out this site for info about the Dallas/Fort Worth scene. Plenty of good info out there for you guys to look at. I just saw they posted a picture of me doing a weak-ass turndown. About 20 minutes after we took that picture I came out of the bowl really fast and smashed the photographer- talk about feel like a jerk. Thanks to Jeric for being really cool about me tackling him while going 20 MPH.
I just got this email from the Gretna BMX track Operator giving everyone a heads up on a meeting going on Saturday...
"Gretna BMX is holding a public meeting Friday August 11 at 4pm. The meeting will talk about the progress of the track and a basic overview of BMX and the ABA. After the meeting the floor will be open for questions if anyone would like to know more.
Jon Rogers has been pumping out some new TBC shirts that I'm really really stoked on and i know he is too. Here is a little preview thing of some sweet new tees.
Last Saturday Raav, Cody, Michael, Jon and myself made the 30 minute drive to Springfield from Baton Rouge to check out Shanes new park. It probably the most fun I've had riding in awhile and the park is super good! Its still not completely done but it is going to be soooooo good when it is. Shane took some pictures of us riding and I'm really lazy so I'm just going to post all of them.
Raav really really did kill the place doing trick after trick in every run. It must of been because the X-GAYmes was going on at the same time 3,000 miles away. Oh, and Michael and Raav were having a high air/team send it contest on the 6ft quarter that you would've had to have seen to appreciate. BIg thanks to Shane for letting us ride allllllllll day and night and buying us gatorade and 32oz vitamin waters.
And dont forget bike night tomorrow at Fastlane down her in NOLA. ROn and I are going to ride street around 5:00 before the skatepark too if anyone wants to join. HOLLA HOLLA HOLLA!
PS. Raav, Colin, and i were riding Tulane street the other night when we witnessed some frat dude on a mountain bike trying going off a curb and managed to loose his pedal, front wheel, and bend the piss out of his cranks. it was hilarious! this isnt as funny because its some cute girl and she gives herself a pretty sweet shiner.
Can't wait to see u dooood! I am going to NYC with Dori on the 9th of august then we will leave from there on the 15th early morning to go the New Orleans. ... So the thing is i am moving back to Lafayette for good i mean at least untill i graduate from UL. Which is about 2 more years. ... i can't wait to introduce Dori to u and everyone. See u soon Yetu. Thanx , take care
Another new addition to the blog! I'll be updating for Lafayette along with Ooti from now on. Now to explain the title, I've been hearing alot about fellow riders trying to sell a few old parts, but have no luck with it because they just cant let everyone around the state know that easily. So to help everyone out, if you have any parts, frames, videos or anything Bmx related, just send me a message on myspace and I'll post it on here. Cameras are welcome too, just keep it Bmx related. I'll be posting these every Tuesday and Friday, so keep a look out if you're wanting some deals. For people wanting to sell parts, if you want to send a picture, thats fine with me. Also, be sure to send some type of contact information so someone can contact you if they are interested.
