If you find your way up in the North Louisiana area looking for something new to ride, the Shreveport Skate plaza may be worth checking out. The 24-hour access public "Skate" Plaza is a fairly new facility and is open to BMX bikes all the time. It was city built so a few things are a little less ideal than you may like but I guess they are keeping it "real" buy building stuff without transition and perfect run-ups. Nonetheless, the small but ample park is something different for the Shreveport area with some cool rails, ledges and slants to ride. It located just south of downtown off of Clyde-Fant Parkway at Stoner Avenue. Yeah they got a Stoner Avenue. Peep the pics, bruh!
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. Sorry about the lack of posts but I haven't heard of too much going on in Louisiana as of late. I got the chance to go back to Allen, TX this weekend and rode their incredible public park for a couple of hours. This place is sick. There is a video below which will give you an idea of how good this place is- a pretty big street section, 3 different bowls that flow together with crazy hips... fun stuff. Sorry there's no real riding in it but I was on a solo mission- maybe some riding footage from this place in the new Savage South roadtrip video? Probably so.
Enjoy the little video and if anyone has some news or other BS email me: bmxman187@hotmail.com
To dat, emil, tyler, trae, Bradon, jeff, cory, tj, cody, and eric for coming out and shred bucks tonight... Big things, good footage, good session. See you guys around
Oh and heres a new louisianabmx wallpaper I did. enjoy
Here are some sweet pics from the Stayin' Alive Jam this past Saturday at Buck Nutty's. The contest was seriously awesome- some wild moves went down. All of these pics came from Brian Sakcriska from Savage South. I should be getting more pictures from Eric Reaux so be on the lookout for that. Also, be on the lookout for a video from the comp as soon as I can make some time to start going through the footage. Enjoy the pics in the meantime.
Cody Miller sending a turndown over the spine. He also did a perfect truckdriver over it among other things.
Rob Crews with the winning bunnyhop (I think it was 43") at the high-hop contest. This dude has serious pop and also tied for 3rd in Intermediate.
Jon Rogers had nose-dive 3's over the spine all day. He also had some pretty wild lines that you'll have to see in motion to appreciate.
Brock Gomez with a lookback out of the 6 ft. quarter.
Raav pulled a clean 720 over the spox (spine/box thing). Dialed!!!
Mickey Marshall rode in the Expert class with Geoff Simmons and they were both getting extremely high all day.
Tyler Sparr from Pensacola, FL won the expert class with crazy tricks like this XL wallslap out of the 8 ft. quarter.
Tonight was amazing. Everyone rode really good. I wont mention much because I'm sure brad and brock have some pictures and videos of it or something. Well, Incase anyone wants to go ride tomorrow I'll be there all day. Fun times
Louis Simmons, owner of Savage South clothing, has just printed up some new BR Aster/Iowa St. shirts that look pretty sweet. Sometime in the near future you will be able to order these puppies from Empire BMX in Austin, TX. Be sure to order one for yourself as well as your closest friends.
Also, Brad Jensen of Icon Visuals has been on a T-shirt printing rampage as of late. I believe at last count there were 4 new designs that were about to be for sale. One shirt was a limited edition piece with local Baton Rouge artist Hunter Roth. All 25 of these shirts are gone so you'll have to check out www.iconvisuals.com to see some of the other shirts Brad has been working on.
For those of you who haven't heard, Erik Stevenson and Cody Miller have been filming a lot over the last few months for a video project. If you are interested (and I know you are) head on over to myspace and add them to your friends (www.myspace.com/southernmixvol1). No word on when it will be finished so keep checking out the site for updates.
For those of you who stayed inside all day you may not have noticed the incredible temperature change- it actually feels like Fall now. In order to celebrate this momentous occasion I'll be building a fire in my backyard and eating s'mores (probably with a jacket and a beanie).
In other (more important) news there is an art show this Friday night at Red Star downtown. Hunter Roth is the featured artist... some of you may be wondering what this has to do with BMX. Well, Hunter was the third BMX rider I met in Baton Rouge 6 years ago and he has been a part of the BMX scene here for quite some time. He doesn't get to ride that much anymore but he's 30 years old and still gets on the ramps and pushes himself every few months. Lately he's been focusing on his artwork, running the LSU woodshop and lurking around in the dark bar rooms of Baton Rouge. So if you would like to see some killer Day of the Dead artwork stop by Red Star Friday night.
If you would like to check out some of Hunter's work check him out on mySpace: www.myspace.com/hunterroth
I also wanted to remind everyone of the contest coming up at Buck Nutty's Skatepark/ranch on Saturday, November 11th. Ooti and the guys in Lafayette have been putting a lot of work into getting some sponsors for the contest and it's really paid off. I heard a rumor that they got like 1,000 pairs of shoes from Etnies to give away. Sounds like a winner!
